Touchdown Part 1

It’s 9 p.m., 26th of November, and I’m still thinking how I’d make it through the night without having to sleep. I’ve got two tins of V drink; wonder if that would suffice to keep these eyelids of mine from resting, although I have this nasty feeling that it wouldn’t. To start of the night, security told me that the airport would be locked at night. Right. That’s a start….So much for hopes of sleeping on a cushioned bench…Malam masih muda…

I knew I’d regret not taking a pen along with my luggage; hence I couldn’t scribble down this soon to be eventful night as it unfolded before me. (Currently typing this down in LCCT, connecting flight is at 9 tonight. God forbid that the internet at home isn’t working, I hate delays)

It just so happens that every time I take a flight alone, I’d meet amazingly interesting people along the way. This time around, I met this Indonesian fellow, Donar and a colorful aged bloke, Peter. You can imagine how tough it was conversing in a so-called Indonesian slang I coughed up in a matter of seconds for each conversation with Donar here. Sunnguh mencabar…And Peter turned out to be a Jack-of-All-Trades. I would think that this man reads a lot, because most of the things he said to me left me feeling rather ignorant. And so he did all the talking and me listening (so was each conversation made between me and any other individual. My bad really)

Apparently Peter here suffered from an illness that makes him hard to concentrate with the smallest of disturbance, and also has this short term memory loss thing going on. Oh, and he’s also epileptic. The moment he said that, a picture of him convulsing on the airport grounds painted across my head…which was so wrong, I know. And so most of the night was spent listening to his life stories (which were rather interesting I might add) until about 1 in the morning when he decided he was feeling rather sleepy.

I wondered if Peter would remember me when he wakes up.

To be continued.
