Words of our Fathers

"It's rude to talk back to your elders!"

"But, I know I'm right! And it's clear as day that you are not!"

The adolescent of this day and age will most probably argue that the above reply is true. In fact, most of the time, they are. Parents nowadays sometimes forget that the world now is very different from back then. Who better knows the world today than the youth, a physical manifestation of the present.

"When I was your age, I had to walk all the way to school!"

True, but that was the time when the majority can't afford the luxury of transportation. Times have changed. Parents, without doubt, work very hard to ensure that their children won't have to endure miles of walk to be educated. So, why bring up this point in the first place?

While this is all true, the lack of sensitivity towards the finer details of the argument is rather disturbing. It is not a matter of who is right or wrong. It is a matter of how to perceive and act accordingly. Certainly we could spare being courteous, even for the rarest of moments?

One day, we would all inevitably come to an age when we feel we have earned the right to be respected. It is then that we realize that it is not so much about who was right or wrong. It is about being deprived of something years of life have procured.
